The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has called on the chiefs and people of Dormaa East, especially the Nananom of Wamfie and Dormaa Akwamu, to release about 200 acres of land for a major real estate development project aimed at creating jobs for the youth and reducing illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey.
The Dormaahene made this statement during the sod-cutting ceremony for the newly proposed maize processing factory at Wamfie in the Dormaa East District on Thursday, 15th May 2026.
Addressing the gathering, the respected traditional ruler expressed concern over the increasing involvement of many young people in galamsey activities, which continue to destroy farmlands and water bodies in the area. According to him, the future of the youth cannot depend on illegal mining that damages the environment for short-term daily income.
He explained that the proposed real estate development project will provide sustainable employment opportunities for many young people in the district. He noted that once the land is secured, several estate houses will be constructed, creating jobs for laborers, artisans, masons, carpenters, electricians, and other skilled and unskilled workers.
The Dormaahene urged the youth to understand and support his developmental policies, stressing that his plans are meant to secure a better future for them and the generations yet unborn.“The youth should understand my policies because I have better plans for them. They should stop spoiling the lands in the name of galamsey for just daily money,” he stated.
He further appealed to traditional leaders and landowners in Wamfie and Dormaa Akwamu to cooperate fully by making land available for the project, which he believes will transform the local economy and improve living conditions in the area.
Many residents at the event welcomed the Dormaahene’s vision, describing it as a bold step toward development, job creation, and environmental protection in Dormaa East.The call for the real estate project came at a time when the traditional area is also preparing for the establishment of the maize processing factory, which is expected to support maize farmers through buying, drying, packaging, and processing maize for both local consumption and export.
