My attention has been drawn to a public notice from the Office of the Municipal Chief Executive announcing the signing of a contract for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market in Aowin.
While development initiatives are always welcome, this announcement raises serious concerns about the development priorities of the current administration in Aowin.It is important to ask some honest questions:Have the people of Aowin ever complained that their biggest challenge is the absence of a market?
Did traders, farmers, transport operators, or residents petition the Government through the Assembly asking for a 24-hour market?
Or is this simply another political project introduced without proper consultation with the people whose lives it is supposed to improve?The reality is clear: the most pressing challenge facing the people of Aowin is the deplorable state of our roads.
Several roads connecting communities to the municipal capital, Enchi, have deteriorated to the point where transportation, trade, healthcare access, and everyday movement have become extremely difficult for residents.This raises an important concern:
What value does a 24-hour market bring when the roads leading to the municipal capital are nearly impassable?
How will traders transport goods to such a market when vehicles struggle daily to navigate these roads?
How will farmers bring their produce to sell when the road network that connects our communities to the municipal center continues to deteriorate?
It is also important to remind the authorities that the Enchi–Elubo road, a critical road project initiated under the previous administration, remains incomplete.The people of Aowin were assured that the current government would continue and complete this important project, Yet 15 months into the current administration, there has been no visible progress on this vital road. Development must always be guided by the real needs and priorities of the people, not projects designed merely to create political headlines.
If the government truly intends to promote commerce and economic activity in Aowin, the most urgent step is to fix the roads that connect our communities, markets, and borders.Until our roads are accessible and reliable, any discussion of a 24-hour economy market will remain a misplaced priority.The people of Aowin deserve practical development, not symbolic projects.Fix our roads first then talk about markets.
