A strange incident happened on the evening of Thursday, 25th June, at around 7:00 PM, after a light rain and a power outage created darkness on the USTED-M campus.
According to an eyewitness, three female students were allegedly seen carrying three school desks and chairs toward their hostel. Their reason for doing so is still unknown.
However, luck was not on their side. A lecturer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was driving along the road when the headlights from his car reflected on the students. After noticing what was happening, he stopped his car to question them.
Immediately the ladies saw him, they reportedly dropped the desks and chairs and took to their heels, leaving behind their slippers at the scene. The lecturer, together with his Teaching Assistant, chased after them but could not catch them.The recovered desks and chairs were later kept safely at a nearby Indomie seller’s shop until they could be returned to the university.
As an eyewitness humorously described it, the ladies ran “approximately at the speed of light.”While the incident may sound funny to some, it highlights a serious problem. One of the biggest challenges students face during lectures is the shortage of desks and chairs in classrooms. If students take university furniture to their hostels, the problem only becomes worse for everyone.
We therefore encourage all students to protect university property and avoid activities that affect the learning of others. School furniture is provided for the benefit of the entire student body and should remain where it is meant to serve its purpose.
