Akua Bour @ 80: A Heroine to Be Celebrated, A True Blessing from Above, A Mother for All Generations

In the year 1945, in a quiet farming village called Pampaso (now known as Amasu) in the Bono Region of Ghana, a special woman was born. Her name is Akua Bour. Today, as she celebrates her 80th birthday, we are not just celebrating her age  we are celebrating her life, her struggles, her victories, and the countless lives she has touched.

She is more than a mother or grandmother. She is a symbol of strength, a woman of faith, and a true blessing sent from above.

Akua Bour did not come from a rich or famous home. She grew up in a humble family and didn’t get the chance to go far in school. But that didn’t stop her. She learned from life itself  from hard work, from the land, and from the people around her.

Farming became her way of life. She didn’t just farm for herself she farmed to feed her family, to survive, and to give her children a future.

She first married to the late Mr. Kwaku Amponsah, and together they had eight children. Later, she married to the late Mr. Kusi Boadum and had three more children, including a set of twins. In total, she had eleven children.

Sadly, two of her children passed away. May their souls rest in peace. But she carried on, with courage in her heart and a deep love for her family.

To keep her children alive and well, Akua Bour moved from one town to another  from Kwayeboahkrom to Krakrom, and later to Sefwi Adabokrom  all in search of land to farm. She planted cocoa and other crops, always working hard to make ends meet.

Life was not easy. At one point, she and her children, and even some grandchildren, all lived in one small room. As her granddaughter Cecilia Boahemaa shared, “Sometimes seven of us had to sleep in that room. But Grandma never gave up.”

Even though she didn’t go far in school, Akua Bour made sure her children had a better chance. She encouraged them to learn, to grow, and to dream big. Some of them followed in her footsteps and became hardworking farmers. Others went to school  and some went very far. She raised all her children and descendants with her Godly religion, and she is a proud member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Her sacrifice bore glorious fruit. Her son, Mr. Kwabena Amponsah, rose from the same soil she tilled to become a respected scholar and pillar of the family. Through him, her legacy expanded from poverty to prosperity, from obscurity to influence. He became the bridge that connected the family’s painful past to a powerful future.

Through his efforts and the solid foundation his mother laid, the family rose from hardship to hope. Today, they are no longer just farmers struggling to survive — they are graduates, leaders, professionals, and respected members of society.

Because of Akua Bour’s hard work and sacrifices, her family has become something truly amazing. From her bloodline have come:

A Queen Mother – Nana Afia Yeboah of Sunyani New Dormaa

Pastors and church leaders

Nurses, teachers, soldiers, and police officers

Business people and government workers

And over 40 great-grandchildren who carry her strength and values

Where once she lived in a small, crowded room, she now enjoys the comfort of an air-conditioned home, built by the very son she raised with her bare hands — Mr. Kwabena Amponsah, also known as “Abusua Boafo”, the one who held the family together.

Akua Bour’s story is not just a personal one. It is a message of hope for every woman, every mother, and every young person who is struggling today. She shows us that you don’t need to be rich to be great. You don’t need a degree to change lives. What you need is love, hard work, and the courage to never give up.

She came from nothing and now, because of her, many have everything.

As she turns 80 years old, Akua Bour is not just marking time. She is living proof of what a mother’s love can do. She is a warrior, a visionary, and a pillar of her family.

She has lived through struggles most people will never understand, yet she has never lost her faith, her smile, or her purpose.

Today, we salute her not only with words, but with deep respect and gratitude.

Happy 80th Birthday, Akua Bour!

You are a woman of honor.
You are a mother of nations.
You are a blessing from above.
And you are a heroine that generations will never forget.

We love you. We thank you. We celebrate you.
